Pastor Jamie Rasmussen begins our new season with a remix of important understandings that place an important foundation under our ability to know what we know about God is true.
Modernity's thinkers all agree that there exists primarily four ways to know a thing:
- Intuition
- Empiricism
- Reason
- Pragmatism
However, these natural epistemology's are severely lacking when considering the metaphysical realm.
As Jamie shared, for centuries, revelation stood alongside these natural epistemology's as a way to understand the world around us. However, modern thinking has tossed revelation out with the bath water.
Nonetheless, God has revealed himself to us primarily through revelation.
In this particular recording, Jamie used a fair amount of audience participation in the reading of 13 verses to put together the foundation for this lesson.
This audience participation did not translate well on our recording, so I am going to record these important foundational verses for you here.
God has revealed Himself to us primarily in and through His Word:
- God gave Moses the Ten Commandments in stone. (Exodus 31:18)
- Moses wrote down the Law, and instructed Israel to pass it down, and to hear the Word of God (the Law). (Deut 31:9-13)
- Joshua writes in the Book of the Law of God. (Joshua 24:26)
- God instructs Isaiah to write down His prophecies. (Isaiah 30:8)
- Jesus confirms the Old Testament, and He becomes its fulfillment, not its abolisher. (Matthew 5:17-18)
The Holy Spirit brought remembrance to the New Testament writers: (John 14:26, John 16:13-14).
The Holy Spirit brought instruction to the New Testament writers: (1 Cor 2:13, 2 Peter 3:15-16).
The Bible attests to itself: (Hebrews 4:12, 2 Timothy 3:16-17).
The Word is truth, and the canon is closed: (John 17:17, Revelation 22:18-19).
